July 29th An Orchid @ Dusk

Just that small wee margin of sunshine has made our Orchid bloom.  Long may she prosper!!

July 28th And it's a Happy Birthday

for the 29th for Ian - who is not 50 by the way, but my thoughts are that once you pass this milestone why count any further (plus I didn't have a #3 candle).  Ooops did I just let slip how old he is?

July 19 - 21 W.W.W. aka Wonderful Waiheke Weekend

We were invited to Waiheke Island for the weekend, and who could say no. The weather gods also were on our side and the weather was stunning, and more in keeping with a beautiful spring day with wonderful sunshine and warmer weather.

Friday July 19th:

Here at Half Moon Bay, Auckland ready for the 45 minute ferry ride across to the Island - note dogs are allowed on the ferry, and a certain pampered pooch, aka Minnie, accompanied us for our island idyll

Saturday July 20th:

The boys headed off for a spot of fishing and us girls headed to Waiheke Markets. When we all reunited again later in the day, it was time to head off for a drive and some island exploring

Sunday July 21st:

A relaxing start to the day on a sunny deck. Then before leaving, time for some more island exploring and then that was the weekend that was.

Oh, and what about this interesting site back in the big smoke of Auckland city. George has had some work at Lion Breweries, and to reach the site access, he regularly passes this office block - built entirely from shipping containers.

July 16th A Rose By Any Other Name

The Last Summer Rose
Always strikes a beautiful pose
The rest are gone and live no more
The petals blown to a distant shore

July 14th Just Nesting

Just nesting while Dad prunes the Roses
(ps if anyone thinks we are bad gardeners - this pot is especially kept for Minnie to 'nest' in when we are outside. This is her favourite posse to rest in - next to the step she can stand on to peruse the neighbourhood and to make sure no pesky felines enter her territory. Believe me, when they do we (and the entire neighbourhood) hear about it

July 13th Pork Belly

Pork Belly - a la Donna Hay's recipe style
(excuse the photography - but I was too busy wanting to serve and eat, rather than worrying about a messy cooking dish)
The meat was succulent and melt in the mouth - just like butter. Yum Yum Pigs ..... Belly

July 11th Two Dogs in a One Dog House.

Minnie had her cousin Benny come for a sleepover
OK You Can Sleepover - this is my Dog Cave (but Mum has moved my bones, the bag)

What do you mean I did it? Hey this is my home, my territory!

If he get's that treat before me, I will be so peed off

Two Dogs One Sofa
Bed time! Now listen you stay on your side of the bed and I'll stay on mine. As for where the two-leggeds are going to sleep? That's their problem

July 10th Decimal Currency

It has been 46 years since Decimal Currency came to town
and back then, we no longer had the shillings and pound
I remember the popular advertising refrain
as we had to work out how to retrain our brain
We were brainwashed with a tune I still can hear
That is ''The Tenth of July - Next year"

July 9th Ooops

When it gets to end of day, and you realise you haven't taken a photo  - that is an oops. Minnie swoops in and saves the day!

July 7th Hamilton Farmers Market

Can you spot the anomaly in this sign? ie ''There is No Way We Will Run Out of Fish Today"!  However look down the list

Friday 5 July 2013

July 4th Farmer Brown

And here we have Farmer Brown
who decided to spend a day in town
It was a big adventure for his dog
slightly unaccustomed to sometimes city smog
however he perservered and surveyed the sights
of the daytime city lights

July 3rd N.N.N.Netball....

I disliked this game when I was at school and now (cough cough) years later, It still isn't a favourite sport. This is the closest I will ever get to watching a 'game' (now ducks for cover as all netball players attack)

July 2nd The Humble Pineapple

Did you know the name Pineapple was first recorded in 1398 - however this was first used as the name for the reproductive organs of the Conifer trees - which are now known as Pine Cones. European explorers, when they first spied the fruit in the America's in the late 1600s, called the fruit a Pineapple, because to them it resembled Pine Cones.

What does this have to do with my Photo of the Day you may well ask? Absolutely nothing, but I thought I would impart some historical information whilst I was in an imparting mode.

Also, this Pineapple was purchased as it was destined to be a smoothie ingredient. However it was so yummy and sweet, it didn't make it to the smoothie stage and was classed as a fresh and lovely sweet dessert instead.

Drum roll please for the humble pineapple.....

June 30th Haere Mai from the Marae

This has been George's home for two  nights. He spent the weekend here as part of his Te Reo course, and I picked him up today. Welcome Home George!
